“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.
He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. John 15:1-2
According to the scripture above It is the responsibility of the Gardener who in this case is God to maintain(tend) the vine. He sees to it that the vine bears all the living fruit He intends. And Jesus here, is seen as the source of life and fruitfulness.
Truth is, you can’t be connected to the True Vine(Jesus) and not bear much fruit. If a branch is connected to the vine and does not bear fruit then it is not a true branch.
If you stand in the position of a branch in Christ, then you must be ready for pruning. Yes pruning is painful but it is for the greater good, bearing much fruit.
A believer who isn’t bearing fruit may fall off the vine by himself because he has become too dry. Also the gardener comes in to cut off branches that are using up resources and not bearing fruits but to ensure that those bearing fruits will have more resources available unto them to bear much fruit!
He wanted us to understand in the verse 1 of the scripture that God is very much interested in our Union With the Christ, He isn’t just interested in the Son but all who have come to accept Him. And ensures that we’re all working well together in Him.
We must be grateful to God for all He takes us through to ensure we grow and bear much fruit. In the end all things work for our good.
He will never do anything to hurt us, He loves us too much to wound us.
His method at times may seem cruel “to the spiritually dull.” Nevertheless, from those who have suffered the most there often comes the greatest fruitfulness.
