…for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee… So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. (Hebrews 13:5b-6)
In the early stages of my growth in Christ, I usually was consumed by circumstances around me. Too many things weren’t going as they should, even after all the constant prayers and service unto Him. I could only conclude that maybe He wasn’t with me after all, if it wasn’t so, why then would I go through those hardships all round as I saw them to be.
In those down moments I usually found solace in my pen and paper as they helped me get most of the pain out by way of writing. Most of those writings were dark with glimmers of light.
On one occasion I shared a poem with a very good friend of mine…
He was much impressed with how I carefully crafted my feelings and circumstances into a piece of a poem. He was convinced that the piece would speak volumes to anyone going through what I did go through and bring hope to every burdened heart. However he added,
“Could you change or modify the ending?”
I mentioned at the end of that poem that because I didn’t feel God’s Presence with me, it meant He wasn’t there but that notwithstanding, I would still hope in the Lord. Maybe by that, He would come back to me and help me through whatever I was Experiencing.
My friend explained to my understanding that God never leaves nor forsake us!! Not even for a second. Rather, We are the ones who draw away from Him. He is always there, irrespective of what we feel.
Just that sometimes we let our feelings control us leading us to live by sight instead of by faith which comes from His Word.
That was the sweetest thing I had ever heard since I started to know God for myself… I began accepting His Word as Truth no matter what I’m seeing with my eyes or how I felt. Focusing on God rather than my circumstances brought me so much strength, peace and joy.
Now I find that the presence of God does not depend on us, it is unconditional and It does not vary with our calling or with our successes.
He isn’t with the Apostles any more than He is with the non portfolio members. However, It is worthy to note that His unconditional presence with us does not mean an experience with Him. It takes a deeper hunger/thirst to enjoy His manifest presence.
But the very essence of today’s Fragrance is to let us know that, no matter who you are as long as you acknowledge Him as your God, you will Call upon Him and He will answer you. At all times!! His Word is Truth.
