When He saw the crowd, He was moved with pity and sympathy for them, because they were bewildered (harassed and distressed and dejected and helpless), like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then He said to His disciples, the harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord of the harvest to force out and thrust laborers into His harvest. (Matt 9:36-38)
JESUS WAS moved with compassion at the sight of the crowd without a shepherd because without a shepherd’s directions, the sheep goes way ward in pursuit of their own desires and while at it might get lost. That also becomes an opportunity for the wolf to capture and devour the sheep because the sheep is helpless and defenseless without a shepherd.
Many Christians go on and on “in their one corner” ranting about how there is increase in wrong doing in their societies. We talk yet do nothing to curb the situation, as though our talks are enough. Talk they say, is cheap, so why not try acting which comes at a cost? That way all will know and see your seriousness.
We have someway somehow neglected our responsibility of righting the wrong. We run away from the problems we have been duly equipped to solve. The issue is, if there was no darkness, there would be no need of light. So why are you not invading the darkness around you instead of running away from it? How will darkness disappear if light does not make an entry?
The harvest is indeed bountiful, there is nothing wrong with it. The only problem there is, has to do with harvesters. There aren’t enough laborers. That is why we are to pray for laborers so that the burden of the harvest will be put heavily in the hearts of men. So, they can wake up to the work there is for them to do.
Enough of the God I want this, I need that kind of prayers, your needs have already been provided, lay hold of them and start praying the right prayers. Get into your closets and call out to Him to burden people with His very heart beat, expanding the Kingdom of God here on earth. Let us all arise unto the work we have been called to do and stop running around chasing things we’ve already been given.
The sheep are scattered because the people who are supposed to shepherd them are not aware of their responsibilities as believers and those aware are also running around trying to cater for their selfish needs.
There is work to be done my friend, so much work to be done! Let’s arise and take responsibility now.
Always remember that, when you commit yourself to the advancement of His kingdom, the king will commit Himself to taking care of all your needs. (Matthew 6:33)
