Today’s Fragrance:Setting Your Affections Right

Scripture:Colossians 3:1-3

The Bible tells us we were crucified with Christ. It is not as if Christ did the work and we partook in it but He did it as us. On the cross we were up there with Him, even in the grave and at resurrection. Therefore, we are dead to ourselves (our old nature of sin, guilt and condemnation) and alive in Christ. If we so be alive in Christ there ought to be a lifestyle of the ascended life for us at the right hand of the Father, far above all principalities and power, in Him.

We are called to set our hearts on things above, “seek those things which are above, where Christ is and not on earth. The reason being, you are dead. You are no longer yourself but Christ’s in God. So stop acting like you are alive! And because you are dead set your mind on where your life is hidden—above.

Everything above the redeemed life is hidden up there in the presence of Jesus at the Father’s right hand. That is home, everywhere else is a field trip. This is very much equal to saying, “seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you” (Mat. 6:33).
This is interesting because we celebrate the one who seeks the kingdom and criticize Him when all things are added. It is like we commit ourselves to the spiritual half but when God brings the other half we become offensive.

Look at how James puts this principle. “Submit yourself therefore under the mighty hand of God and He shall exalt you in due season”. And here we celebrate the humble man and criticize him when God exalts him.

This hurts our own future promotion; we cannot be trusted with ours.
Our mind must drift in God’s thoughts (above only). The throne life or the above life mentality is not a place we go to for our daily affairs; it is where we live, where our thoughts are ordered to think like Christ; where, as He is, so are we in this world, for we have the mind of Christ (1 Co. 2:16).

Stay focused on things above, shalom!
