… And with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. (Ephesians 6:15)
Do you remember that time you used your bare foot on the basketball court, or the football field? How was the experience? And your performance as compared to those in the right footing?
Well, Today’s message is taking us through another piece of the armor of God. This armor is likened to the Roman soldier’s footwear.
You see, In those times, a soldier wouldn’t go to battle wearing any ordinary shoes lest he falls.
The sandals, of the Roman soldiers were heavy sandals studded with hobnails, to give a secure foothold.
Truth is, The sandals doesn’t necessarily protect the foot but it definitely ensures right standing. And a soldier is better off standing, that way he can face the enemy squarely and the right footing gives him that extra edge.
The enemy has so many tactics he employs to ensure our downfall, a perfect way is using our mind against us, always accusing us of things that we’ve already received forgiveness on and what we’ve not done to weaken us. This causes us to feel unworthy and that excites the enemy. Then boom, we’re back to the old ways.
Paul helps us understand that the war will always be waged but fitting our foot with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace is a sure way of attaining victory.
The gospel is looked upon as the declaration of “peace on earth, goodwill towards all men.” The firm stand on this message is the firm assurance of God’s love. In this alone we stand!
We need to have a strong assurance that there is nothing to fear though Satan is in hot pursuit on his heels. This gospel of peace is the message Jesus gives to us today that God’s love for will never be shaken, and that we have a right stand with our Father meaning we have the enemy under foot!
