Topic: Pain, a necessity for growth?
Scripture: Proverbs 20:30
“Physical punishment cleanses away evil; such discipline purifies the heart”.
Change is difficult, it most times hurt but it’s possible…
When you become so used to some way of life change becomes difficult not because you are growing in the zone but because you are familiar and comfortable in that zone.
A lot of us have embraced mediocrity in the name of familiarity.
It is time to stop living under circumstances and start living above them!
You see, if you are in the same position for 3years and above and you still haven’t experience any appreciable amount of positive change leading to growth in whatever you are doing then there is a problem.
I always like to link change with getting yourself a new pair of shoes.
Can you recall those moments when you finally bought the pair of shoes you were dying for?
The experience of getting new shoes or clothes is exciting!
We start wearing the shoes and our feet hurts badly but we endure and continue walking in them because we feel good in them and they make us look classy and attractive too.
Not forgetting those clothes we buy but get home to realize it’s a bit to small for us, but we force ourselves in wearing them even though we might end up not being able to breath or even drink water. We endure because we badly want them and because they make us look and feel good.
Now I want to liken this scenario to having a new life in Jesus Christ.
Formally you were used to worldly stuff but now you know that light and darkness has nothing in common, infact wherever light goes, darkness disappears meaning you must do away with your old self so you can fully shine as the light you are.
But here is a case where, new is good but it hurts sometimes. But because you desire it so much like those new shoes you must be able to endure till you get used to or the shoes opens up a bit then you don’t feel the pain anymore.
The life of a Christian isn’t always rosy and cozy, you have to pick up your cross daily and follow Him(Christ) and we all know what the cross entails… its not pleasant but we must endure…
1 Corinthians 2:9 For it is written:
“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man, The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
if you happen to be reading this but you keep going back to your oldself because the pain in the new life is unbearable, I have good news for you, you don’t have to do this alone because your strength will fail you at a point and that’s exactly why you keep going back.
Can you lay it all on Jesus? He promises to be with you through out for He cares so much for you.
Maybe you are afraid you will loose all your friends but don’t worry you have a better friend in Jesus and He is all you need.
Father Lord, thank you for my life today, please forgive all my sins even as I forgive those who sin asgainst me. Lord I thank you for giving me a new life through your death and resurrection and I offer myself to you to be used in everyway pleasing to you. Take charge of my life because I can’t handle it on my own in Jesus name have I prayed with Thanksgiving, Amen.
