Topic: let it out
Main Text: Matthew 5:14-16
It’s quite easy to tag or label someone walking on the streets naked and dirty as insane. This is because no normal human being will exhibit such traits in broad day light when all eyes are watching.
But it’s funny as to how those people tagged as insane actually see themselves better than those who are normal. It’s not surprising because most times when you get used to or too comfortable with certain things it’s difficult to notice when going off track hence the man mad saying he is normal.
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
You know that sometimes just for selfish reasons some people want to be the only ones who possesses better things even if they’ve got to step on the heads of others to reach it and I wonder why we keep preaching love if we cannot show it by helping others.
Imagine that in the heat of the moment, a night before examinations begin for students, there is a total blackout but fortunately, you’ve got your lamp which is fully charged so you’ve got no worries. Meanwhile your roommates have none and instead of putting the lamp at a place where it can shine bright for everyone to benefit, you choose to be selfish so that you alone will pass the exam. So you placed the lamp on your bed and wrapped yourself with a black cloth covering the lamp as well so that you alone will benefit.
I don’t think a mad man will even attempt this. But why is it that people who are well kept and normal are producing traits of insanity?
Hold on just yet, I’m about making a point here…
Jesus says His followers are the light of the world and so, they must shine bright everywhere so that others can see their way out of the darkness, but for selfish reasons believers are hiding their lamps, and some have also made it very dim that unless you are very close you won’t even see any light.
So instead of tagging that naked man walking on the streets naked as insane you should be busy researching into why you have a lamp and you’ve been surrounded by darkness to the extent of not seeing anything and yet you choose to hide that lamp under your bed or dim the light to the point where only you can make use of it.
Before you dim or hide your lamp remember that Someone’s life depends on you because you were chosen to attract people to your light to know the source of that power that they may be saved.
Father in the name of Jesus, thank you for this word and my life. Please forgive my sins as I forgive those who sin against me. Help me let go of this insane attitude of hiding my lamp from the world. Help me let it out and make it shine so bright that others can find their way in the dark. Thank you Lord for hearing me in Jesus name, amen.
