Where is your faith anchored?
I quite remember that when i was in
primary school there was this hymn that we used to sing with no clear understanding, but i have grown to really appreciate the song. The song goes like…
Will your anchor hold in the storms of life?
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain
Will your anchor drift or firm remain…?
We have an anchor that keeps the soul
Steadfast and sure while the billows roll
Fastened to the Rock which cannot move.
Grounded firm and deep in the savior’s love.
such a powerful song !
The essence of faith is that it does not require our sight or proof. But notice that faith is “reality”. Just because something is not seen does not negate its existence. If it did all of us would be brainless, for i doubt that you have seen your own brain. But we know we have a brain. Faith is loving a Christ, you have never seen, but still know exists.
It is not a question of if you have a faith. It is not a question of if the storms of life will come. It is the question, will your anchor of faith, hold through the storms? The time to anchor your hope and faith to Christ is now, before the storms show up.
Now why should we anchor our faith in Christ?
There is no virtue in faith per se as people have trusted in it, but its virtue comes from where it is rooted.
Faith in Christ is…
- Imperishable Faith (1 peter 1:4-5)
Faith in Christ is forever lasting, unlimited and unbound.
The bible tells us to store up our treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:20) why? because it will be under the direct shield of the Almighty’s power. Who dares to steal what belongs to you, a faithful child in your father’s house, right under His nose?
Where else can you hook your faith if not to Jesus who is currently in heaven sitting at the right hand of God the Father interceding on our behalf?
Faith in Jesus cannot perish, neither can it degrade, always standing firm giving us victory and strength to carry on.
- Tested faith (1 Peter 1:6-8)
True faith is trial embedded.
True faith cannot stand without trials. The bible says the trial of our faith produces perseverance leading us into maturity and completeness in Christ lacking nothing. (James 1:4)
The good news is that our tested faith in Christ is revealing and transforming. When gold is passed through fire it comes out pure and refined, the more the refiner sees his reflection through the gold the purer the gold, but the bible says our faith is of greater worth than perishable gold because it is hooked to Jesus who is unfading and unshaking.
This tells us that our tested faith reveals Christ in us, the more we are tested the more of Christ we become and the more we are rid of impurities, that is, things that makes our faith shake.
- True Faith (1 Peter 1:10-12)
Faith in Christ is true, and it does not happen just by chance but given from above.
Bible says in Romans 10:17 that faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
You get this true faith either through someone preaching the Word or through personal bible study. The Holy Spirit works in us to develop this faith in us, but there cannot be true faith without the word of God.
The true word of God heals our unbelief leading us into trusting God against all odds.

Father in the name of Jesus, thank you for the gift of life this morning. Please forgive my errors and wash me that i may be clean. Father heal my unbelief and ground my faith deep in you, i trust in you and so into your hands i commit my soul, far beyond the reach of devourers.
Thank you Father for making your ears attent unto my prayer in Jesus’ name, Amen.
