The Power of Words

Galatians 6:7
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.

Have you ever heard of the law of cause and effect?
“As you sow, so shall you reap”.
– Whatever you put out in the Universe is what comes back to you.
– If what you want is Happiness, Peace, Love, Friendship… Then you should be Happy, Peaceful, Loving and a True Friend.

When we think, speak or act we initiate a force that will react accordingly.
For the sake of this study we will focus on speech because a lot of people still do not know how powerful words are.

The Genesis of everything that exists now is the Word of God.
By His words He commanded the whole world into being and by the same word He put boundaries in place and made sure that everything was in order.

Sometimes i get sad when i hear people utter negative words ignorantly into their lives because those same people tend to point fingers at persons other than themselves when things are not going well in their lives.

Proverbs 18:21 says;
Death and life are in the power of the tongue:
and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Whenever words are uttered we give them permission to affect(exist in) our lives and that of others.
When they are released, it waits for the appointed time to react with certain actions.
And the bible makes it clear in Hosea 8:7 that
“They sow the wind
and reap the whirlwind.

Whatever we sow has a multiplying effect, therefore whenever we give out something we receive in abundance that particular thing we sown.

Sow good and you will reap goodness in abundance the same applies to evil, sow it and you will reap evil in abundance.

Job 22:28
Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee:
and the light shall shine upon thy ways.

So if we have this power lying on our tongues, why not use it to our benefit?
As a man thinks so he is in his speech and out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.

It takes conscious efforts to make this happen in your life and by the help of the Holy Spirit you are more than Able to make this work.

Has anyone thrown tomato seeds somewhere unconsciously without attending to it and weeks later, come around and see it germinating and you go like, who planted these here and the next moment you realize it exists by your actions?
Exactly… Those seeds found the necessary conditions for growth and therefore it began sprouting!
The same happens when we release words, so watch it, because whatever you sow you will reap and the urgency attached to this is that, you get more than you can handle(multiples).

Do not think you are too smart and you can outwit God, He existed long before He formed you. And so do not also think that whatever you are doing will not be exposed, at the right time the words you have released will break dormancy and rule over your life.

And so i end with this text…
Hosea 10:12
Sow righteousness for yourselves,
reap the fruit of unfailing love,
and break up your unplowed ground;
for it is time to seek the Lord,
until he comes
and showers his righteousness on you.

Father in the name of Jesus, thank you for the gift of life given me, i am indeed grateful for the mercy shown.
Please forgive my errors and make me whole again.
Create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.
Help me bring out goodness even when the circumstances around me prevents that.
I trust and believe in you God, that you are able to turn my life around and so thank you father for making your ears attent unto my prayer and answering it in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

  1. very true, many of us underestimate the power in our words and proclamations. many calamities that have befallen many people today are as a result of spoken words and many great blessing stems out fro spoken words and declarations. We must learn how to use our right because they have power to build and destroy. it shall not destroy us in Jesus name. ❤

  2. I like the example of the tomato seeds. We do utter certain words without paying attention to what we say and at the end bears the results of it. Amazing piece.

  3. Such a powerful post and an awesome reminder of how powerful our words can be – when I lead a bible study for my daughter and her friends when she was in middle school. I had them all squirt toothpaste into a dish and then try putting the toothpaste back into the tube lol which obviously is impossible -the analogy is our words to others and ourselves once they are out there they can do great things for God’s glory or destroy !!
I love your blogs please keep writing what God puts on your heart you are a blessing
